В субботу я, еле выспавшись, тащился к 11ти (there was an interesting panel I wanted to attend). Оказалось, что комната, в которой должно было проходить обсуждение, заперта. Через минут 15 её открыли и стало ясно что она не подготовлена к мероприятию. Мне к тому времени стало скучно (даже блондин в зеленом кимоно с желтым зонтиком не заинтересовал меня) и я уполз глянуть чего показывают в соседнем зале. Показывали "Loveless". В программе было написано что у них марафон - все серии до 5ти часов вечера. Пару серий я посмотрел, вспомнил в чем там дело было. А потом началось "Beloved, Beloved..."

Я не выдержал и ушел.



DDR

По дороге проходил мимо комнаты где играли в DDR, немножко подумал и встал в очередь.

Все-таки за что я люблю AnimeNorth, так это за атмосферу of absolute acceptance and cooperation.

Как только я заявил что понятия не имею что делаю, никогда раньше не играл, и был бы не прочь если бы кто-то мне помог в первый раз, так мне тут же на помощь чуть ли не прыгнуло пять человек сразу. С другой стороны, если бы я пытался во всем разобраться сам, то на это ушло бы время, а время = деньги, это мы все знаем. Tем более, это было бы их игровым временем - скинуть меня они не могут, я тоже имею права, а позволить мне тратить их время они не собираются; вот и помогают чтобы все были довольны.

Я was a bit weirded out, но в конце концов decided to get the help of the девушки которая собиралась играть со мной. Она мне быстренько объяснила что к чему, я быстренько сделал вид что все понял, и мы начали.

Выражение "ОЧЕНь ПОНРАВИЛОСь" и близко не опишет моей реакции, а моё знание русского оставляет желать лучшего. Поэтому - английский: it was TOTALLY AWESOME!!! <333

Но первый раз я играл недолго - the next panel was about to begin and I did not want to be late. So I left with a firm decision to return as soon as I can and play till I drop (especially seeing how it was free).



yaoi-ish

On the next panel we were discussing yaoi in Gundam Wing. Incidentally, while there are barely hints of romantic involvement of characters (and it is all hetero romance), somehow yaoi in Gundam Wing is brought up SO often that its almost canon - which kinda weirds me out, really: I think that this focus on non-official yaoi in GW takes away from the actual message of GW and how much it can be related to reality. However, I enjoyed the panel nevertheless (especially amusing proved the comment on Zechs' name: once, someone heard "Zechs Merquize" as "sex monkeys" ).

I also stayed for the next panel,but I fail to recall the details (sorry).

Потом я мчался на next panel, again about Gundam (sue me, I'm a FAN). This, though, was more of a "Галопом По Гaндамам", т.е. мы впомнили и поговорили о всех аниме в названиях которых было слово "гандам". Было интересно сравнивать разные сериалы по самым разным критериям - тут Земля для элиты человечества, а колонии для отбросов, а здесь наоборот. Там герои связались с гандамами случайно, а здесь их выбирали, и т.п.. В какой-то момент обсуждения GW, нам всем пришлось to make an effort and not make the Gundam Smorgsabord Panel into "We Hate Relena" panel. We barely made it in time, rounding it all up with Seed, Destiny, and Astray.

Bобщем, кайф. Почти как от DDR. А потом...



yaoi

О, потом мы пошли на яой-panel (yet again). First, there was the "Lightbulbs and corn" and while I knew where the "corn" had come from, I had no idea what was the deal with lightbulbs. Thankfully, I was not the only one and we had it explained to us: apparently, in FMA Envy turns into a lightbulb and rapes(?) Edward Elric. After that "union", there was also offspring. *sweatdrop* apparently, we were talking about all the weirdest things we have ever read about online in fanfics or seen in anime. And at some point I stopped wondering what was going through the heads of readers and audience, and started wondering чего обкуривались авторы, создавшие подобное.

So it was very illuminating.

And then there was Gay Sex 101 - for all those little girls who write yaoi and don't even know where penis is. However, at doors we were all carded, so no one under the age of 18 was allowed in.

It was SO COOL. Its amazing how much laughter there is when we talk about yaoi - more than any other topic I've witnessed discussions on, I swear.

But it was past midnight, and I was beginning to miss my sleep. Lack of it was making me cranky, and the fact that I'm getting sleepy on Gay Sex 101 wasn't exactly improving my mood either. The worst thing was that I had been looking forward to the "Impossible Positions" contest - even did yoga to improve my flexibility, and now it was looking like I would have to leave before sunrise. *sigh*

As I closed the doors behind me, I SWORE that next year I WILL have caffeine in one form or the other and will NOT leave so early just because I miss my sleep.

volunteeringСобственно, для меня он начался ровно за 12 часов до открытия of the convention itself - I got up even before my alarm clock went off (too excited to sleep) and was out within an hour.

I was the first to arrive and again accepted the evidence of having made a good impression on our supervisor. Right off the bat, I was assigned work and given all that I needed to do said work.

Eventually, some more people came and we really got going.

Again, same thing as yesterday - stuffing packages. But if yesterday I had managed to avoid bodily damage, this time I had failed miserably

Somewhere around noon someone wondered about food. We already had our water bottles in huge packs on the floor and some of them were actually on the table and in the process of getting emptied. An idea floated around that, as volunteers since early morning, we are entitled to a snack. however, no one knew anything. So when our supervisor popped in to encourage us some more, I asked him "Sir, are we entitled to a snack for the work we do? Is there going to be any food for us?" He paused, froze as if stunned. Suddenly he was all excited again: "Of course, food! I'll put it on the list for next year." To which I merely raised an eyebrow since we were all hungry NOW, and "next year" wasn't going to cut it. In a few minutes he returned and announced that in 20-30 minutes we'll have sandwiches brought to us. We cheered.

During the snack time, some girl actually thanked me for having asked him about food. I replied in kind, but admitted that the idea of snack was not mine.

I still couldn't understand why the people were afraid of or even disliking our supervisor - he's a pretty ok guy, really.

Near snack time, he came in again, and he and I had an interesting exchange about silent movies: apparently, there's one that is THE greatest one ever, and after asking when it was made, I pointed out to him that it was 60 years before I was born so classics of silent cinema aren't my forte. Everybody had a laugh (even the supervisor, as it seemed to me).

When it was time to leave, he was there to sign our hours and I asked him if he could count them as 6 instead of 5.5. Technically, all my purposes would have been perfectly served with 5.5 hours, but give me a window of opportunity and I will be greedy. As proof of my hard work, я продемонстировал ему изрезанные пальцы - the latest paper cut still bleeding profusely. In total, I had two paper cuts on my right hand and 4 on my left (один такой длинный, прямо вокруг основания большого пальца, будто кто-то намечал ампутацию).

Он был впечатлен моим трудолюбием и упорством и поэтому написал мне все шесть часов.

Теперь мне могут refund my membership и дать футболку and badges with AnimeNorth on it.

AnimeNorth, Day 1До начала of the panel I wanted to attend оставалось 2 часа которые я решил употребить на добывание еды.

From volunteering, there was a girl that asked me to allow her to go around with me (she said "stalk you", but I'm sure she mean just to stay near). It surprised me a little because a) it wasn't her first AN and b) she was older than I was when I had my first and second ANs and for my first time I had been ALL alone and had bo problem with it. For my second, I had been with a girl, but we still went our separate ways a few times and I had no problem with it (I would have liked it less if she stuck to me - I LIKE my freedom and there will NEVER be anyone to take it from me).

Still, I shrugged and agreed to allow her to accompany me.

Right now, I'm actually feeling a little guilty - we parted half-way through Friday and I had not seen her since then.

Oh well. She's a big girl (childish, though), she can take care of herself. I'm sure she's fine [NOT].

So we went to get some food together and discussed our plans for the day/weekend. I told her I wanted to go to panels, she told me she wants to watch anime. I shrugged and reminded her of YouTube. She scoffed and declared herself not a yaoi fan, informing me that she will not join me for any of the YaoiNorth panels that I was SO looking forward to attending.

The time of the first panel we agreed to attend was speedily arriving. I was careful to ask her - as opposed to order her - to come to the dollar store to check the price of AA batteries - in case those in my camera die during AN.

Наверно, это можно считать предпоследним сознательным воспоминанием того дня. Сразу после этого, были гонки по комнатам отеля, в надежде успеть вовремя, медленные шаги по Dealers' Room - не дай бог упустим что, и множественные 10-meter dashes to a person with a cheery request for their photo.

После второго отеля я уже уставал, поэтому плюнул на Ballroom Dancing Workshop и уехал на автобусе.

... А началось все с того что я стормозил: надо было послать e-mail чтобы подписаться на информацию для volunteers, а я забыл. Поэтому пришлось в понедельник слать e-mail вроде "Пожалуйста, простите, йа криветко, но у меня вопросы..." К среде я получил лаконичный ответ с искомой информацией - полученного было достаточно чтобы построить план на четверг, но я знал что информация не полная и некоторые данные все еще отсутствуют.

Прибыл я туда за 15 минут до встречи - а раз мы договорились встретиться за полчаса до начала "смены", у меня было 45 минут свободного времени. Его я решил употребить на на ознакомление с местностью: в целом все осталось как в прошлом году (они даже кресла не переставили). Поэтому мне скоро стало скучно и я решил рискнуть здоровьем at the volunteers' office (они как раз открывались к тому времени).

Навстречу мне явился некий cубъект - как мне показалось, у него были проблемы с дикцией. Я поспрашивал его и он - в несколько болеe резких тонах чем надо было - ответил мне куда идти и во сколько там быть. I was a bit taken aback by his tone of voice, but still thanked him politely.

Seeing how the required time was still 30 minutes away, I settled in an arm chair and observed my surroundings.

В какой-то момент в поле зрения появилась девушка и задала те же вопросы что и я ранее. Правда ей уже отвечала более приветливая женщина и я подошел к ним поближе. Вместе мы прошли в указанную комнату где женщина предложила нам ждать, пообещав что скоро придут остальные volunteers and we'll be told exactly what to do.

С девушкой мы поговорили немного (стандатные вопросы - давно ли с AnimeNorth, возраст, яой/не-яой, зачем volunteering), а потом пришло еще немного людей и the supervisor.

Earlier, the girl had warned me that this supervisor is incredibly mean and that I should watch out for him. Seemingly this sentiment had been shared by all those around me because they sure as hell jumped to work as soon as he gave orders (this supervisor turned out to be the same person whom I had spoken to earlier that day). I, however, could not find in myself the fear of him they all seemed to have.

I attempted to maintain my attitude positive and respectful and it seemed to me that I was making a pretty decent impression on him.

Объявив нужные указания, он удалился и мы, само-организовавшись в конвейер (да, мы все знаем историю and Ford's contribution to it), принялись за работу.

Конечно же, мы не работали в тишине (мы, в конце концов, volunteers, а не роботы) - разговоры, шутки, смех, опять стандартные вопросы, комментарии, воспоминания, споры... Один парень даже включил свой PSP2 - так что у нас была даже музыка (пару песенок я, кажется, узнал). За час мы - человек 10-15, я не считал - собрали 1000 пакетов. Как я знаю что именно 1000? Нам сказали что пришла 1000 журналов, и за час эти журналы все закончились. Было четыре разных выпуска, и в каждый пакет надо было сунуть один из них. Но мы were volunteering, так что у нас была уникальная возможность заиметь все четыре выпуска (что я и сделал).

Мы продолжили без журналов, управились точно к открытию of Pre-Registration Pick-up.

It is interesting to note that since I forgot when it was supposed to open, I wanted to go earlier and check. Our supervisor happened to be in the room when I wanted to go. I asked him if I may go without him signing me out from my volunteering duty since I fully intended to return and continue with work. He said that if I leave, he'd have to sign me out, to which I did my best "sincere" look and promised that I would return QUICKLY. He looked at me and said that he could trust me, I smiled and made a dash for the door. THEN he told me that Pre-Registration opens in 30 minutes.

From volunteering, we had actually arrived a little earlier than was officially required, but the lines had already been HUGE. However, the lines had been segregated (group registrations in one, single registrations in the other) AND we had all the required documents with us, so the process had been VERY quick.

Получив все что нам было надо, мы ушли и детали планов на все три дня обсуждали уже по телефону.

К слову: за все то время, что мы собирали пакеты, я не слышал ни одного ругательного слова. Разговоры - конечно, но ни одного ругательства. Not even a raised voice. Just people, doing an easy job in a comfortable environment, united by a common goal and working together to achieve that goal.

Peaceful cooperation.

AnimeNorth началась.

Вернее, начнется завтра.

Бегаем, бегаем, бегаем.

Если буду рассказывать как прошла anime convention у нас, то только во вторник (причем сначала на ЖЖ - там есть хорошая функция сохранения записи прежде чем я её отправлю).

совершил ненужный поступок. В некоторой степени правильный. В какой-то мере спасающий. Но - ненужный.



Наверно у меня помутился рассудок от счастья (бывает, знаю). Ведь обычно, вместо того чтобы идти одному против двоих (причем каждый - в два раза больше меня) только потому что я прав, а они - нет, я иду окольными путями - сообщить наблюдения начальству, а те потом что хотят, пусть то и делают. Ведь личной выгоды я все равно не получу...



Ну да ладно.

На сегодня все обошлось.



Но расслабляться рано.

Будет мне еще "смерть через "манямбу" ", ох как будет....

ААА! AnimeNorth на этой неделе!!!

Они уж и программу вывесили...

A планировать будет легче когда это будет бумагой в руках, а не изображением на экране...

Похоже, придется много потрудиться прежде чем мeня пустят туда спать...

... Точно стены хрустального замка, возвышались над морем голубые уступы. Холодом и мертвенным спокойствием веяло от ледяной горы. Зеленые волны с рокотом разбивались у её подножия. Нежные облака цеплялись за вершину.

Я немного художник в душе. Величественные картины природы волнуют меня то чрезвычайности. Скрестив руки на груди, я застыл от изумления, созерцая ледяную громаду.

И вот, отккуда ни возьмись, тощий тюлень высунул из воды свою глупую морду, бесцеремонно вскарабкался по склону, развалился на льду и давай, понимаете, чесать бока!
